Mary Ann Crouch.Mary married Kenneth Long on Aug 08 1942.
They had the following children:
M i Robert Lee Long.
Rhoda Long [Parents].Rhoda married Ganzer.
Rhoda was known for being cranky and difficult as far as I can discern. My mother took her into her home for a while (after I was grown and gone) to help take care of her. It seemed to cause a lot of difficulties and she was I guess very demanding and difficult. But mom always felt obligated to her and in fact any family member.

Hi, I hope I have the right guy. I seem to remember you telling me that you were descended thru Andrew and Phoebe Dove Ingles. If that is right, here goes. I found Andrew and Phoebe on the 1900 Census. Montgomery County, Illinois., South Litchfield Township, Litchfield City, June 8, 1900. Andrew, b. February 1847, Illinois, father born Ohio, mother born Ohio, age 53, retired farmer, could not read, could not write, but could speak English; Phoebe, b. February 1842, Illinois, father born, Tennessee, mother born Tennessee, age 51, could read, could write, and could speak English. Children; James, b. Oct. 1882, Illinois, day laborer, Martha, b. March 1885, Illinois, and Benjamin (I had some trouble with this one, it was really blurry, so I am giving this my best guess), b. April 1889, Illinois. Andrew and Phoebe had 10 children, 3 living. I hope I am giving this to the right guy. If I am, please let me know. I have been researching the Ingel, Ingles, Ingalls for quite a time. I am related to the Elizabeth I. Webster that married Samuel Ingel, Andrew's father. I hope this helps. Bye , now.

Tragedy Stories in Sorento (pg. 21)
One of them was about a boy about 16 years old by the name of Fred Howard from Litchfield, Ill. His mother sent him to town for groceries. Instead, he hopped a train and came to Sorento where he stopped off at my cousin's house. They were playing and when the next train came through going to Litchfield he tried to catch it, but it was going to fast and it threw him under the wheels and cut his leg off. My aunt and cousin carried him to my grandmother's Phoebe Ingles, house. They went after Dr. Chittum. The boy was placed on her kitchen table where Dr. Chittum performed theamputation operation before sending him to the Litchfield Hospital.

"My Grandmother, Aunt Phoebe Ingles as she was called, told fortunes bythe cards. She charded ten cents, and man peole came to get theirfortunes told. The young girls, maybe, for the fun of it. But a lot ofpeople swor by her. I rember when we lived with grandma of ElizabethBoscamp and her daughters, Betty Diller and Viola Overbaugh, of Panamawould come to get their fortunes told. Mrs. Boscamp's family, the Frey'shad lived here before.

She (Grandmother Phoebe) lived with us and she would hold the babies while Mom worked. She told us of going with dad to see Lincoln when he made his speech at Alton. She said the snow in those days would get so deep you could ride or walk over the fences.

1900 census reportedly give birthdate as February 1842 for Phoebe, but age was 51?. [?] Also, she could reportedly read and write. Both parents were from Tennesee.

Jess Webster [Parents] 1 died in Reno, Illinois. He married Nancy Pollard.
Father was a full blooded Cherokee named "Great Eagle" (supposedly an Indian Chief).
Buried at Reno, Ill., 4 miles east of Sorento.
Nancy Pollard [Parents] 1 was born 2 in South Carolina. She married Jess Webster.
Other marriages:Davis,
My grandmother Ingles told me that Nancy Pollard was from either North or South Carolina. She said her family owned a plantation there and possessed slaves also. She said they looked "Indian" to her.
My mother (Norina) told me that she thought Nancy's daughter (Nettie Webster) was Portuguese. She told me that often, but this may have come from the American Indian father side of family.
An interesting note is that Harry Ingles' wife was also a Pollard and was reportedly "Spanish". These Pollards are called "Portuguese" and said to "look Indian". A common practice among the history of what's known as "Melungeons" in Tennesee/Kentucky hills, is for dark skinned people with a Negroid or Indian background to account for their dark skins by calling themselves "Portugeuse." Historically, Negroes and Native Americans were not looked upon favorably in society and thus the incentive associate themselves with the dark skinned Europeans - the Portugese or Spanish.

1880 census in Virginia show Martha Christian or a Martha Crichton of Mecklenburg south Hill Dist., VA. and in Richmond, VA. also shows a Patsy Pollard, mother- age 40 and another dau - Rachel age 6. Nancy was age 8 at time. All were born in Virginia. I tend now to think that these are not the same people.

Vera Ingles, Librarian of Creve Coeur, Ill. library told me (mitchsanders) June 07, 2001 that Harry was definitely NOT adopted as some geneological data indicates. This was her father. This confusion I think arises from the census were he is listed as a Benjamin incorrectly.
